What Are Shredders?

In any office destroying data and documents shredding is a very basic and primary requirement. If you have just started a new organisation then a stand-alone office shredder can meet most of your requirements, however big and large organisations and companies that require large amount of papers shredding and data shredding may need to contact an external company to destroy their documents.

Here are some guidelines to follow when buying a paper shredder:

Strip Cut Shredders vs. Cross Cut Shredders

A strip cut shredder is the one that will cut your documents into long and thin vertical strips. With some efforts a papers that is cut with strip cut shredder can be converted into its original form.

A Cross Cut shredder is the one that cut your documents vertically as well as horizontally making it very difficult to recover the data. The smaller the pieces that the shredder cuts the higher the level of security. And the more you have to pay for it. There are some other cut styles like diamond cut, confetti cut and micro cut.

Sheets per Run

Sheets per pass (or pages per pass or sheet capacity) in the number of sheets of paper that the shredder is able to shred at one time. Most "personal shredders" (used at home to destroy bills, etc.) are rated at two to five sheets at a time. For a shredder to be used in a business, it must be rated for a minimum of 12 to 15 sheets of paper at a time. Most shredders have a slot gage built right into the front of the shredder to help you estimate how many sheets you can feed into the shredder at a time. Additionally, you should be able to shred documents without having to remove staples. Some more expensive ones will even shred paper clips.

Duty cycle

Duty cycle determines how well and strong the shredder is. The higher the duty cycle the better and much stronger would be the shredder and it will also last longer, For an office use a duty cycle of around 100 to 150 sheets per day would be ideal. Another thing that can determine the durability of shredder is "Continues Run Time" rating. An office shredder should have a continues run ratings for around 25 to 45 minutes.

Extra features

There are a many other features that you should consider while adding extra money to your shredder. Here are several worth considering and looking for when you purchase your shredder.

Extra Large Bin:

If the waste bin of the office shredder is small, it will take much and many times to remove and empty the waste bin. An office shredder should have a waste bin the can hold at least 8 20 litres of waste.
Bin Full Sensor:

A full bin sensor tell you when the waste bin of the shredder is full and needs to be cleared, This feature save wastage of time in an office caused by full bins, It helps in reducing jams but also tells you when to empty your waste bin.
Temperature Sensor:

This feature senses the temperature of the paper shredder. Temperature sensor will tell you before the motor is over heated and burned up. Good quality shredders will stop the shredder before it is overheated and damaged.
